I'm teaching at the PIT this Summer - Wednesdays
July 2-August 6
This class will teach students how to write for sitcoms like How I Met Your Mother and Entourage. Through entertaining instruction, writing assignments, real-life (well, real-TV) examples, and feedback, students will learn to construct stories, scenes and dialogue that work. At the end of the course, students will have a spec script (that, hopefully, they will work on some more before they submit to anyone). We will discuss:

  • The studios and the networks and how the business works
  • The series development process
  • How to pitch your own show
  • Pre-production
  • The production process
  • How an episode goes from idea to screen
  • The importance of a great writing sample
  • How to get an agent
  • The “Staffing Season”
  • Tips to survive once you’re on staff
  • And… YOUR SPEC SCRIPT

She has won "CLASH OF THE COMICS" three times and was a semi-finalist in "THE GREAT CANADIAN LAUGH-OFF" - and she's from New Jersey!!

Sarit began her comedy career in radio, creating, writing and producing three award-winning comedy services for ABC Radio Networks and as well as other nationally syndicated services. After her success in radio, Sarit set out to conquer the television world as a writer/producer. Her credits include Coach, Full House, Soul Man, Talk To Me, The Crew, Café Americain, and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. She has worked with top stars including Dan Aykroyd, John Goodman, Valerie Bertinelli, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Craig T. Nelson, John Stamos, Bob Saget, Anthony Clark, Peter Scolari, and the Olsen Twins. Sarit created two original series, Girls’ Night for UPN and Click for Big Ticket Television, a division of Spelling Entertainment.

Sarit's independently-produced TV pilot, "What She's Having," has been accepted to screen at the New York Television Festival, the industry's most prestigious festival.

In the feature film arena, Sarit wrote and sold options on two original screenplays which are currently being marketed to studios by producers. She has won three (3) Writers’ Guild of America Awards and was named a semi-finalist in the ScriptapaloozaTV screenwriting contest.  Sarit also teaches sitcom writing at the People's Improv Theater and TV writing at The Learning Annex.

That's me, Kimmy Gatewood (one of my stars), my director Matthew C. Johnson, and (my other star) Canedy Knowles at the New York Television Festival, where we kicked butt!  We didn't win but we totally should have.
